We at Four Winds PPG offer training for foot launch powered paragliding. We are currently training 45-50 students per year, and while training time varies student to student, it generally takes 7-14 days to learn to fly! We work hard to ensure that students are safe and confident in their PPG skills so they can launch, skillfully maneuver and land their paramotors without assistance or challenge. Emphasis is placed on safely mastering flying from the beginning along with fully understanding the rules, regulations, physics and complexities of the sport.
This is an in-depth course to learn the ins and outs of powered paraglider flying, maintenance and ownership. Our syllabus provides the skills and knowledge you need to confidently fly on your own and with friends. You will learn about equipment, how to launch safely, fly expertly, and land with ease! You will also be taught the fundamentals of weather, gliders, airspace, Federal Regulations, maintenance, and many other tricks that may well take YEARS to learn on your own.
Additionally, we are one of the few full service schools in the US to offer FREE rental for ALL of your state-of-the-art equipment (motor, wing, helmet, radio, etc). We include gear for your first 15-20 flights so you'll never feel pressured to buy gear without knowing exactly what it is you want. We'd rather you fly our gear, and learn from years of first hand experience what gear is right for you and your flying style.
Schedule and Training
What about the schedule? In order for us to offer premium training, we schedule 2-4 students, twice a month. Our course is tailored to each students aptitude, but conducted in groups as we find it is easier, and more fun, to learn with others. There will be 1 instructor to every 2 students. We schedule classes for 14 days, but we need a guaranteed 7 days to practice and reinforce your new skills in order to make you a safe and competent pilot.
Our training syllabus uses the USPPA PPG2 course as it's foundation, but with additional elements and refinement based on over 30 years of teaching by Eric DuFour. The initial training days are PACKED with ground handling practice, classroom work (weather, FAR 103, Fed. Regs., glider design and theory, paramotor pre-flight inspection & maintenance, risk/safety/attitude course) and paramotor simulator sessions. By day 3 or 4, dependant upon your aptitude, you may be ready for your first solo flight! Truly, an unforgettable experience! Subsequent days of training include numerous flights in the mornings and evenings during which you will continue to refine the skills in which you need to fly safely and confidently on your own and completing the classroom syllabus.
Our fee is $2500, which includes use of our state-of-the-art gear. We require that you commit to a minimum of 7 days of training for us to help make you a safe and confident pilot. To truly enjoy paramotoring over the long term, it is important to get a solid foundation from the beginning. If you would like to test for your PPG1 or PPG2 rating we can also arrange for that.
